Learn how SIMOC is used in an 8th grade classroom as an engaging tool for STEM education. This live demonstration of SIMOC, a Mars habitat simulator and educational web interface, was hosted by Cory Newman, Executive Director of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association, with Kai Staats, Director of Research for SAM at Biosphere 2, Gretchen Hollingsworth, classroom instructor at the Barrow Academy of Arts & Science, and Tyson Brown, Editorial Director of the Resource Library at National Geographic Society.

SIMOC project lead Kai Staats and Mars City Design founder Vera Mulyani review SIMOC datasets generated by Mars City Design competition teams. In this video Kai explains the complex behavior of mechanical and plant-based (bioregenerative) life support systems in a completely sealed habitat, as demonstrated by the interactions within the SIMOC simulation engine and web-based interface.
 

The Space Habitat Event is an international event dedicated to debate the operation of space analog stations and future Mars and Moon colonies / settlements / stations. The theme of this second edition is: “Sustainable Technologies for Future Space Habitats (Moon and Mars) and Analog Space Habitats”.
